Inspired at age 15 by Star Trek, the Summer of Love, and Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings, Dr. Voorhees found herself pursuing a medieval studies Ph.D. program at UC Berkeley.
In 1979 she was awarded a Fulbright scholarship to study medieval art history in Germany. While there she found her spiritual path, began meditating in earnest and discovered that there are levels of truth and beauty far beyond the intellectual.
She returned to Berkeley, finished her Ph.D. and gladly bailed out of academia, keeping busy with not-for-profit work, her spiritual practices, and end-of-life care for aging relatives.
These days Dr. Voorhees spends her time as a writer of essays and novels that help us make sense of, and find meaning in, the earth-shaking events of today.
