In this presentation Dr. Karen Voorhees draws on her background as a cultural historian to follow the arc of human history from the earliest foraging tribes up through the present and on into a possible Integral future. Along the way we look for deep patterns that might give us insight into the cataclysmic events of today, and help us see where we may be headed next.

For this conference Dr. Voorhees has chosen to present her vision of our past, present and future in the form of a story. “Blood Moon” will be a dramatic monologue in the first-person voice of a Stone Age priestess who, during a near death experience, has a vision of the entire arc of human history. Once back in her body she struggles to convey to her frightened people what she thinks is a vision given by the gods. Like us, her people are experiencing a phase of rapid, turbulent change in which old structures are breaking down under the impact of new technologies, while new structures have not yet taken shape.
